Niikappu
Niikappu (新冠町 Niikappu-chō) is a town in Niikappu District in Hidaka, located in the central northern part of the subprefecture. A long thin territory it stretches 55 km from the Hidaka Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. Some 77% of the land is forested with only 10% agricultural.
The JR Hidaka railway line passes through Niikappu, with stations at Ōkaribe (大狩部), Seppu (節婦), and Niikappu (新冠).
In 2008, the town had a population of 5,982. The total area is 586 km².
Niikappu is best known for its stables, with a number of famous racehorses living in retirement in Niikappu.

Places of interest
- Record Museum The largest local tourist attraction, the Niikappu Record Museum (新冠レコード館) is home to several hundreds of thousands of records. The museum includes listening booths for visitors use and a small exhibit in which the evolution of record-playing devices is on display.

- Niikappu Hotel and Onsen [5] A building crafted out of imported Canadian wood, the Niikappu Onsen sits atop a hill on the outskirts of town. One can experience a view of the ocean and surrounding hillside from one of the outdoor spas. The hotel also includes a restaurant and private rooms that can accomodate large and small groups.
