Samani
Samani (様似町 Samani-chō) is the sole township of Samani District in the southeastern part of Hidaka Subprefecture between Tokachi Subprefecture and the Pacific Ocean.
The JR Hidaka railway line terminates at Samani (様似) after passing through Utoma (鵜苫) and Nishi-samani (西様似).
In 2008, Samani had a population of 5,533. The total area is 364 km².

- Mount Apoi 810 m Forms a separate section of the Hidaka Sanmyaku-Erimo Quasi-National Park. The rocks on the mountain are mainly peridotite [1]. There are a number of endemic alpine plants, including Erigeron thunbergii var. engustifolius (アポイアズマギク Apoiazumagiku) that flowers in May-June. The northern pika (Ochotona hyperborea yesoensis) is found at lower levels than elsewhere in the Hidaka and Daisetsuzan Mountains. There is also an alpine butterfly, a type of grizzled skipper Pyrgus malvae coreanus (Himechamadara-seseri) [2].
